  • The 50-share Nifty50 index closed -0.57 per cent, or 45.95 points, lower at 8,065.80 today. It hit a low of 8123.55 and a high of 8,111.75 in intraday trade today. The S&P BSE Sensex closed -0.68 per cent, or 181.31 points, down at 26,656.83 today. It hit a low of 26,878.48 and a high of 26,838.14 in intraday trade.

  • Markets continued its weak trend today, ending lower for the fifth straight session amid weak corporate earnings for the September 2015 quarter. Today's fall in the market marked the longest losing streak for the equity indices since early June. Investor sentiment took a beating this week after the US Federal Reserve indicated the possibility of raising interest rates at its December rate-setting meeting after nine years since 2006. The Sensex shed 813 points or -2.95 per cent while the NIfty50 ended with losses of 230 points, or -2.7 per cent.

  • The beginning of a new F&O series failed to lift the mood on Dalal Street as the Nifty50 closed below its crucial support level of 8,100, fuelling fears of further downside in the coming week. Vedanta and ITC were the top losers today in the BSE benchmark, which lost -6.68 and -4.3 per cent, respectively.
