NSE

  • The markets traded rangebound today with metal, power and IT being the biggest gainers. Banking and capital goods, too, made some gains while auto and consumer durables pulled the indices down. The Sensex closed at 16968, up 61 points from its previous close, and the Nifty shut shop at 5142, up 21 points.

  • The top Nifty gainers today were Sesa Goa, IDFC, Tata Steel and Tata Power while the biggest losers included Tata Motors, Cairn India, Kotak Mahindra Bank and ACC.

  • We are approaching an inflection point that will determine if financial markets, including Asia can stabilise and start an erratic recovery phase in the weeks ahead, says Herald van der Linde of HSBC on CNBC TV18.

  • There is no signal of any kind of a move on the Nifty so it is difficult to take a trading call, says Sudarshan Sukhani, technical analyst, on CNBC TV18. However, Bank Nifty is showing strength so one could go long in that, he adds.

  • Go short in the Nifty at 5150-5160 with a target of 4850 and stop loss of 5216, says Sarvendra Srivastav, technical analyst, on NDTV Profit.
