NSE

  • The markets closed with substantial gains today with all sectoral indices closing positive. Auto, banking and capital goods were best performers in today's session and consumer durables, FMCG, healthcare and IT, too, gained significantly. The Sensex closed at 16950, up 272 points from its previous close, and the Nifty shut shop at 5139, up 84 points.

  • The top Nifty gainers today were Grasim, Tata Motors, Ambuja Cemsnts and Reliance Infra while the biggest losers included Sterlite Industries, Sesa Goa, Bajaj Auto and ONGC.

  • The markets closed with substantial gains this week but the gain was confined to largecap counters. The Sensex was up 1.3% and Nifty gained 1.4% over the week. The CNX Midcap index closed flat, BSE Smallcap gained 0.5% while the Bank Nifty closed with 0.7% gain.

  • As long as the Nifty holds on to 5000 levels, one could buy on all dips with a target of 5200, says Devang Shah of Sharekhan on Zee Business.

  • We are bullish on the market and expect Nifty to test 5270-5300 in next 5-8 sessions, says Shardul Kulkarni of Angel Broking on Zee Business. Only if the Nifty gives a closing below 5000 would then our view turn bearish, he adds.

  • In the next 1-2 days we could go lower from current levels but there is strong support at 4980-5000, says Mitesh Thacker, technical analyst, on ET Now. Buy on dips to 5020-5000, he adds.
