  • The markets perked up a little after yesterday's fall and managed to close in the green. Traders showed interest in the counters of brokerage firms in the last minutes of trade and paper and rice related stocks, too, gained significantly. FMCG, auto, banking and realty supported the indices well while IT, capital goods, metal and oil & gas were negative. Gas-related stocks lost significantly on concerns about transportation cost. IGL lost about 48% in a single day. The Sensex closed at 17244, up 22 points from its previous close, and the Nifty shut shop at 5244, up 9 points.

  • The top Nifty gainers today were Tata Power, Reliance Communications, Tata Motors and Kotak Mahindra Bank while the biggest losers included BHEL, Ambuja Cements, Ranbaxy and GAIL.

  • Buy Nifty Futures with a 2-3 day target of 5320 and stop loss of 5200, says Ashutosh Sarna of Maxgrowth Capital on CNBC Awaaz.

  • Sell Nifty Futures with a 2-3 day target of 5140 and stop loss of 5300, says Mohit Gaba, technical analyst, on CNBC Awaaz.

  • The Nifty has resistance at 5295 and the markets are showing downward trend, says Mitesh Thacker, technical analyst, on ET Now.
