NSE

  • The markets remained choppy throughout the day and recovered significantly in the last half-an-hour to close with moderate losses. Capital goods remained the worst performer in today's trade and oil & gas and healthcare, too, remained weak. However, banking, metal and realty made a turnaround and closed with significant gains. The Sensex closed at 16776, down 107 points from its previous close, and the Nifty shut shop at 5030, down 38 points.

  • The top Nifty gainers today were Jindal Steel, Tata Steel, SBI and DLF while the biggest losers included SAIL, BPCL, Siemens and GAIL.

  • Market momentum may be on the downside in the near term, says Sajeev Dhavan of JV Capital Services on ET Now. Investor sentiment is weak for buying equities, he adds.

  • If the Nifty level of 5050 is taken out on opening, then the market could go down to 4970-4900, says Ashwani Gujral, technical analyst, on ET Now.
